Your picture is amazing!! It looks like my husband's family.... to a T! I have attached the address of my son's home page... it has a picture of my husband on it... you should be able to see the resemblence... it's amazing!

My husband's famly immegrated from Poland in 1900 or so and moved to central Minnesota. There are less than 100 families in the USA with our last name spelled exactly the same. One of his uncles changed the spelling to Gadach and one uses Godach.

Are you putting together a family tree or is this casual research?

A nice surprise to hear from you.

My name is Oleh Roman Gadacz and I was born in Toronto on May 17, 1952. My father Stefan was born in 1911 in Zolota Sloboda (Freedom is Golden), a small town in the Ternopilska Oblast (District) near Lviv, Ukraine. I have two brothers Ihor and George both of whom were born in Ukraine and they are both living in Toronto. My father and mother emigrated to Canada in 1948 by way of Germany.

My father's father, it may interest you to know, was named Petro (Ukrainian for Peter) and to the best of my knowledge, he also was born in Sloboda Zolota but I can't give you a date. I don't know anything more about him but I do know that there is a very small branch of the Gadacz family living in Ukraine.

As for myself, I have been living in Seoul Korea since 1980. I have a small business Korea Auto Research which specializes on, you guessed it, the Korean motor vehicle industry. My wife Eun-Soo is Korean and we have three children Marco (11), Stefan (10) and Leshia (20 months).
I see from your e-mail that you have contacted Linda Gadacz @ cloudnet.com. She was the first Gadacz I managed to contact on my first «net search.» She was very helpful. As you probably heard from her, there is a cluster of Gadaczs in the mid-Western states (Illinois, Minnesota) all of whom are descended from a Polish Gadacz who emigrated to the USA around 1900.

You may also be interested to hear that there is another Gadacz in Toronto who says they are from Hungary! They are recent arrivals in Toronto and I have never met them.

So, we have German, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. This is truly fascinating. I am most interested in hearing about your progress with the family tree.

This all sounds very interesting! My grandfather tells me we had relatives which came from around Gdansk, or where it used to be. My grandfather is 92 years old and has a good memory of past relatives. I would be interested in hearing about the history and so would he.

During the holidays I spoke to my grandfather about his father and brothers. Here is what I found out. My great grandfather was named John Gadacz and was born October 9, 1862 in Kcynia near Wagrowiec. He moved to Poznania and met his future wife Franciszka Janowiak. In 1882 John and Franciszka came to the U.S. and were married in South Bend Indiana in 1886. John and Franciszka had five boys: Steve, Valentine, Joseph, Casmir, and my grandfather-Leo.

John had four brothers and two sisters. There was John, Stanley, Mike, George, and Joseph. My grandfather could not remember the two sister's names. Joseph was the only one that remained in Poland. Four of Joseph's children that my grandfather could remember were Stanley, Joseph, Bernice, and Mary. These four came to the U.S. at some point and my grandfather said Joseph had other children but they stayed in Poland.

My grandfather, Leo, is the last one living out of his brothers.

I can connect a few names on your list that you sent me. First of all, T.S. Gadacz on Brick Rd. is no longer a Gadacz. She was my brothers first wife. Starting with my grandfather Leo Gadacz. Leo had two sons, Chester (born 1930) and Sylvester (born 1932). Sylvester has four daughters and lives in California. Chester had a daughter named Cynthia (born 1958) and two sons, David (born 1959) and me-Daniel (born 1964). Chester lives in Mishawaka Indiana, David lives in Cassopolis Michigan, Cynthia married Kevin DuBree and lives in South Bend Indiana, and I (Daniel) live in Bloomington Indiana.

Serdecznie Cię pozdrawiam. Cieszę się, że podjąłeś się tego zadania zebrania wszystkich wiadomości na temat naszego nazwiska. Myślę, że będziemy się czuli jedną wielką rodziną. Ja też często zastanawiałem sie nad pochodzenim naszego nazwiska. Nie wiem czy uda nam się skompletować wszystkie wiadomości, ale będziemy przynajmniej wiedzieć jak nasze nazwisko rozsiane jest po świecie. Jeśli chciałbyś przyjechać do Wrocławi do mnie, to nie ma problemu - zawsze czekam! Tak nawiasem mówiąc, to zastanawiam się, czy nasze nazwisko czasami nie jest pochodzenia polskiego, a może ukraińskiego - z powodu końcówi - «cz». Co o tym myślisz? Rozmawiając z kimś na ten temat, stwierdził, że może to być nazwisko śląskie. Sam nie wiem.
Ich grüße Dich herzlich. Ich freue mich, daß Du Dich dazu entschlossen hast, die Herkunft unseres Namens zu erschließen. Ich denke, daß wir uns alle als eine große Familie betrachten können. Ich habe mir auch oft darüber Gedanken gemacht, wo unserer Name herkommt. Ich weiß nicht, ob wir es schaffen, alle Informationen zu vervollständigen, aber wenigstens werden wir wissen, wo unserer Name in der Welt verbreitet ist. Wenn Du zu mir nach Wrocław (Breslau) kommen möchtest, ist es kein Problem - ich erwarte Dich immer! Am Rande bemerkt, ich überlege, ob unserer Name nicht eventuell polnischer oder ukrainischer Herkunft ist - wegen der Endung «cz». Was meinst Du dazu? In einem Gespräch machte mich jemand darauf aufmerksam, daß der Name schlesisch sein könnte. Ich weiß es selbst nicht.

RODZINA GADACZ Z JAŹWIN FAMILIE GADACZ AUS JAŹWIN
Jażwiny to wieś w woj. Tarnowskie. Rodzina Gadacz osiedliła się tam prawdopodobnie między pierwszą a drugą wojną światową, ale skąd przybyli nie wiadomo. Kim był ojciec rodziny i jak miał na imię nie wiem. Był podobno człowiekiem bardzo szanowanym i bogatym (posiadał dużo ziemi), ale wiele ziemi sprzedał chłopom. Miał charakter wielkiego pana, wykształconego jak na owe czasy, ale i gbura, despotę, który pracą się nie kala, tylko siedział z fajką całymi dniami pod domem, wydawał rozkazy i pilnował porządku. Z byle kim nie rozmawiał. Miał synów: Jan, Bronek, Stanisława, a także prawdopodobnie córki, jedna z nich miała na imię Henryka.Jażwin ist ein Dorf in der Wojewodschaft Tarnow (Anm: ca. 80 km östl. von Krakau/Kraków). Die Familie Gadacz ist dort wahrscheinlich zwischen dem 1. und 2. Weltkrieg angesiedelt, man weiss aber nicht, woher sie kamen. Wer der vater der Familie war und wie er hiess weiss ich nicht. Wahrscheinlich war er sehr geehrt und wohlhabend (er besaß viel Land), aber er hat sehr viel Land an Bauern verkauft. Vom Charakter her war er ein grosser Herr, für damalige Zeit gebildet, aber auch ein Grobian und Despot, der sich an der Arbeit nicht schmutzig machen wollte und nur den ganzen Tag mit einer Pfeife vor den Haus saß, auf Ordnung achtete und nur Befehle gab. Er hatte die Söhne Jan, Bronek, Stanisława (Stanislaus) und außerdem wahrscheinlich einige Töchter. Eine von ihnen hieß Henryka.
Syn Bronek (+ok.1997) wyjechał do Francji i tam założył rodzinę. Syn Jan został kapłanem Zakonu Braci Mniejszych Capucynów, nosił zakonne imię Kornel. Był doktorem historii, napisał wiele książek. Zmarł w r. 1985 we Wrocławiu. Wiem, że zbierał informacje na temat naszej rodziny, ale nie dotarłem jeszcze do pozostawionych przez niego notatek, które są w naszym zakonnym archiwum.Sohn Bronek (gestorben um 1997) ist nach Frankreich ausgewandert und hat dort seine Familie gegründet. Sohn Jan wurde Pater im Kloster «Braci Mniejszych Capucynów» (Anm., etwa: Bruderschaft der Kapuzinermönche) und trug dort den Ordensnamen Kornel. Er war Doktor der Geschichte und veröffentlichte viele Bücher. Er ist 1985 in Wroc²aw (Breslau) gestorben. Ich weiß, daß er Informationen über unsere Familie gesammelt hat, bis jetzt konnte ich aber an seine Notizen nicht herankommen. Sie befinden sich noch in unserem Ordensarchiv.
Syn Stanisław (+ok.1995), ożenił się z Janiną z domu Krzysztowczyk we wsi Borowa i tam zamieszkali. Stanisław miał dzieci: Stanisław, Czesław, Halina.Sohn Stanisław (gestorben um 1995) heiratete Janiną z geb. Krzysztowczyk aus dem Dorf Borowa (Anm.: vermutl. auch im Kreis Tarnow, s.u.) und sie haben sich dort niedergelassen. Die Kinder von Stanisław: Stanisław, Czesław und Halina.
Syna Stanisław, ożenił się z Barbara Kurzawa i mieszkają w Zielonej Górze. Sohn Stanisław heiratete Barbara Kurzawa und sie wohnen in Zielona Góra (Grünberg). Syn Czesław, ożenił się z Anną i mieszkają w Opolu. Sohn Czesław hat Anną geheiratet und sie wohnen in Opole (Oppeln). Córka Halina, wyszła zamąż, za Ryszard Pragłowski i mieszkają w Sędziszów Małopolski, woj. Rzeszowskie. Mają syna Przemysław i córkę Wioleta. Tochta Halina heiratete Ryszard Pragłowski und sie wohnt mit ihrem Mann in Sędziszów Małopolskiin der Wojewodschaft Rzeszów (Anm.: ca. 120 km östlich Kraków und 80 km vor der ukrainischen Grenze). Sie haben einen Sohn Przemysław und eine Tochter Wioleta.

Mają córkę Zuzanna. Tochter Edyta ist mit Janusz Frąckowiak verheiratet. Sie spricht Italienisch und Französisch. Zusammen haben sie in Kraków (Krakau) Pädagogik in der Katechese studiert. Zur Zeit wohnen sie bei den Eltern in Zielona Góra. Sie haben eine Tochter Zuzanna.
Córka Urszula, mieszka z rodzicami. Jest studentką trzeciego roku germanistyki na Wyższej Szkole Pedagogicznej. Tochter Urzula wohnt bei den Eltern. Sie studiert Germanistik an der Pädagogischen Hochschule im 6. Semester.
Córka Anna jest uczennicą Liceum Ogólnokształcącego i uczy się brdzo pilnie języka angielskiego. Tochter Anna ist Schülerin im Lyceum und lernt fleißig Englisch.
Więcej o nazwisku Gadacz w Zielonej Górze nie znam i raczej nie ma. Weitere Gadacz in Zielona Góra kenne ich nicht und wahrscheinlich gibt es auch keine weiteren.

Wiem, że jest ich trochę, znam jedynie dr Tadeusz Gadacz. Kiedyś byłem u niego jak był jeszcze w Krakowie i rozmawialiśmy na temat naszego pochodzenia, ale nie wiele z tej rozmowy wynikło, bo mieliśmy mało danych. Obecnie prawdopodobnie mieszka w Warszawie i pracuje na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, chyba na katedrze filozofii. Ich weiß, daß es dort einige (Gadacz) gibt. Ich kenne nur den Dr. Tadeusz Gadacz. Ich war mal bei ihm, als er noch in Kraków wohnte, und wir haben über die Abstammung unserer Familie gesprochen. Das Gespräch ergab aber nicht viel, da wir nur wenige Angaben hatten. Zur Zeit wohnt er wahrscheinlich in Warszawa (Warschau) und arbeitet an der Warschauer Universität am Lehrstuhl für Philosophe.

Ich habe oft nachgedacht über unseren Stammbaum. Ich weiß aber auch nicht, ob es möglich ist alles über Fam. Gadacz zu wissen.
